The costs of mitigating social risks

Our latest report, released September 2021, quantifies the costs of avoiding disputes with local people. Our analysis of 137 projects and survey of 85 businesses has found that investments in social risk mitigation typically offer good value for money (see map and infographic below) .

Our report shows that there is a business case for investments in actions like holding community meetings and conducting stakeholder mapping. Nearly 46% of investors experienced disputes and 30% of the project analysed were delayed (with an average cost of $25-40 million).
